Rapid Mapping

By using airborne laser scanning technology, StreetMapper is able to capture data at normal driving speeds, meaning that entire urban environments can be mapped in a short amount of time. Combining the laser scan data with video and photographic imagery enables the 3D model to be created accurately with realistic texture mapping.

With a single scanner, the main street of Wollongong was scanned in under 10 minutes by StreetMapper. Features such as road markings, curbs, manholes and overhead wires were clearly visible in the point data.
